The current study involves the design and construction of Zoi Borsinou’s pharmacy in Lefkada. Lefkada is one of the most up – market areas of the Greek capital; the buildings stand out for their uniqueness and evidently expensive style. We invested therefore, architectural emphasis in the dynamics of the elegant appearance of the pharmacy, but also to practicality and combined it with an up – market design of the outer area, highlighting the area both from the outside in, and vice versa.
A characteristic feature of the composition was the rounded wall corners. These give a sense of spatial continuity, embracing with a smooth and gentle manner the inside space.
The products are placed on shelves around the room therefore, releasing a central spacious area that allows easy movement for both customers and employees. Attention is instantly, directed by the visitor to the curved inside wall that is painted with bright color and helps both viewing and identifying the products. The round inside wall offers a smooth continuation of the customer area with the laboratory that is located at the rear part of the pharmacy. The circular product shelves lead the customers to the rear part of the pharmacy where a spiral ladder makes accessible to them an additional first floor round balcony space with pharmaceutical products. The glass shelves and furniture are enhanced with interior lighting that subtly, casts from an indirect angle a discreet and pleasant light that illuminates the products.
The use of wood around the glass shelves and the contrast between the white and bright color allows visual access to every corner of the pharmacy. The different elements form a space that balances while each sub – area is using progressive material (wood, glass etc) changes and differentiates from each other in an artistic manner.
The result is an attractive and unique exterior and interior architectural identity that stands out in an urban area with very elaborate and elegant buildings.
