The small plot is established in the center of Heraklion. The architectural composition was based on the particular characteristics of the plot and the functional needs of the tenants. Based on these data, a five-storey apartment building with a ground-floor parking and a basement was designed. The establishment was placed inside the plot, to "breathe" in relation to the opposite build and to achieve optimal lighting and ventilation of the block.
Two apartments are developed on the first two floors, while the permanent household of the family on the last three. The composition of the volumes was based on modern criteria, without imitating the proportions of urban architecture. The floors are shrinking in stages, an element that was the primary axis of architectural design. Two frames unify the floors and at the same time separate the two categories of houses. The semi-covered spaces and the balconies, in addition to their functional role, complete the creation of the volumes. Particular emphasis was placed on the lighting of the building, where the glass blocks add extra interest, as the natural light constantly moves and changes.
The development of the house is achieved on three levels, as the squares per floor are gradually reduced in height. The key is the interior architectural design, where the limited square meters are used in a significant way. The study was based on the concept of the smart home, and the control of the daily functions can be done from anywhere inside or outside the dwelling.
The living room and the cookhouse are developed on the first floor. The blind wall offers storage space in the kitchen and works as a transitional element for the creation of the lounge furniture. The dining bench is a continuation of the kitchen island. The bedrooms are placed on the second level of the house. The floor is separated by the staircase and the bathroom, ensuring the necessary privacy for the master bedroom.
The office space and the second living room are located on the third floor. Respectively, the impassable wall is used to create the office library. The furniture, made of wood and glass, produces a continuous play of open and closed shelves. A characteristic element of the room is the fireplace that dominates the space with its design. In closing, the basement is utilized by creating additional spaces like play room, athletic facility, and whirlpool
