Elounda Hills Villas Designed for Mirum Group.
Excited about this collaboration, for making the proposal of a new luxury residential complex in the hillside of Elounda, Crete.
The concept design came into being from our longing to preserve the landscape’s primary elements while creating at once an innovative project and an environment dedicated to the communal wellbeing, supporting human relationships and the interplay between human and nature. The geometry of the horizontal surfaces converses with the habitat whilst their limit evens out the variations between the artificial and natural space. The eastern view is open towards the endless blue color of the sea and the Mirabello Bay, while the interiority of the backyard creates a concealed sunken square enhancing privacy from unwelcome sights and protection from nature’s elements as the gaze travels across the interior re-emerging onto the sea.
Local foliage puts emphasis on the vegetation, inviting the structures and the humans to co-exist with nature. The residence connects the two distinct spaces, the sea and the mountain, the interior with the exterior realizing thus, the unification of the natural with the artificial volumes.
The constant switch of the position of the light within the day, is a continuously alternating experience interwoven with our belief that Architecture is in direct connection with the location as well as time and momentum, generating an interplay between light and shadow.
The multiplication of the unit formed a synthesis which gently follows the Helix, proposing at the same time the best orientation towards the view. Each residence is therefore morphologically autonomous and altogether they create a sense of continuity between each other, at the same time, forming a perpetual, transparent volume directly connected with the natural landscape.
