The proposal concerns the renovation of a house located in the area of Kokkini Hani in the prefecture of Heraklion. The aim of the proposal was the successful integration of the building volume and the individual outdoor configurations in the landscape of the area. This is achieved by reinforcing individual parts of the face with stones from the rocks of the place.
The plot has a total area of 508 sq.m. and the house which is developed on an underground basis has an area of 206 sq.m. The location of the house in the center of the plot allows the development of traffic axes east and west of the building that lead to the lower levels and the semi-outdoor living areas. The configuration of the plot allows the visitor to take a walk inside the plot following the route delimited by the landscaped flower beds. To the southeast of the building is located the parking lot of the vehicles next to the main entrance.
The stone walls are connected to each other with other lighter elements such as glass and wood, etc., thus creating the semi-outdoor spaces that face north to the view. The house is developed on three levels. The basement is on the same level as the ground floor due to the slope of the ground. The basement has an area of 50 sq.m. used as storage space. On the ground floor there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.
The floor includes the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the WC. Communication between the floors is achieved with an internal staircase. For almost all interiors, respectively, outdoor landscaped spaces are provided, independent of each other.
