Our main goal during the design process of Astir hotel restaurant, was to create a functional space that will serve the needs of the visitor, while providing an equally aesthetic result.
The buffet area on the south of the restaurant is fully redesigned with the creation of a Π shape corridor with counters, and the placement of two main islands in the middle. In that way the flow of the visitors is evenly distributed and crowding is avoided. The new routes, serve both the hotel guests and the staff that has clear ways for the food placement and its replenishment. Moreover the buffet area is in direct correlation with the kitchen that is also in the south of the area, whereas on the north and west part of the space we find the seating tables. In the main area, a wooden structure that serves as a long bench is placed throughout the total length of the space. On the left and right side of this construction the rest of the tables are being placed, fully utilizing the remaining space without suffocating it, while allowing unlimited view towards the sea. This area is a continuity both functional and aesthetical of the lobby bar area that was constructed 4 years ago. The two areas are divided by a wooded structure with glass shelves that allows the visual contact between the two spaces.
Regarding the materials, the wood is combined with the local marble of Festos area, enhancing that way the local element in the space as well as creating a luxury feeling with black and golden metal details that complete the material canvas. Last but not least, a mix of white and orange is selected for the seating fabrics, that combined with the greenery in some areas all create a unanimous result.
